Minami is Osaka’s main center for shopping, dining, and nightlife – the city’s second most important district after Kita/Umeda. Filled with neon lights, vibrant crowds, and delicious food, this area draws countless locals and visitors every day.
The name Minami means “south” in Japanese. The district includes Shinsaibashi and Namba, as well as a small part of Minami-Horie. It’s the place people go to have fun and enjoy the city’s energy. Minami is divided into northern and southern sections by Midosuji Boulevard, home to Osaka’s most fashionable boutiques and department stores.
Running east to west, the Dotonbori Canal cuts through the heart of the area, lined with bustling restaurants and nightclubs. Parallel to the canal are Osaka’s iconic covered shopping arcades. To the southeast lies Den Den Town, the city’s main hub for electronics and pop culture. The entire district offers a unique mix of experiences and atmosphere that every visitor should see for themselves.
