Option 1: Portable WiFi Router

NetGear AC785 by NTT – a compact device that provides internet access throughout Japan. Works on 4G/3G NTT Docomo networks with speeds up to 788 Mbps (except in low-signal areas).

Plans:

• High-Speed Internet
  ¥5,500 (≈$55) / 7 GB (no time limit on usage)
• ¥1,000 (≈$10) nationwide delivery
  After 7 GB (about 10 movies online), speed slows to 200 Kbps (still enough for messaging apps).
  Additional 7 GB can be purchased up to 2 times.
• Unlimited Low-Speed Internet
  ¥500 (≈$5) / day (min. 6 days, max. 30 days)
• ¥1,000 delivery
  Speed: 200 Kbps – sufficient for email, messaging, and voice calls in apps.
  Total cost = daily rate × number of days.

• Delivery to your hotel or airport.
• Includes a prepaid return envelope.
• To return: place the router and all accessories (charger, battery, etc.) in the envelope, seal it, and drop it in any red Japanese mailbox (easy to find, including at airports) or leave it at your hotel front desk.

• In case of loss or damage, a fee of ¥22,000 (≈$220) applies.
• Orders must be placed at least 3 days before arrival.
• Cancellations less than 7 days before arrival: $20 fee.
