About Roppongi
Roppongi is located in Tokyo’s Minato Ward, near other bustling districts such as Meguro, Ebisu, Ginza, and Tokyo Tower. The heart of the area is the famous Roppongi Crossing - a four-way intersection beneath the expressway. The word “Roppongi” appears in large letters forming a tunnel, symbolizing the constant movement and excitement of the district.
Spend the day in two stunning complexes
Roppongi is home to two remarkable multi-purpose complexes: Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown. Both offer a blend of art, cuisine, shopping, and relaxation. A walk between them takes only 15–20 minutes (about one kilometer).
Roppongi Hills
At the center of Roppongi Hills stands the towering Mori Tower. The lower floors house shops and restaurants, while the upper floors feature the Mori Art Museum and the Tokyo City View observation deck, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. It’s open late, so if you enjoy nighttime scenery, you’re in for a treat. In winter, Keyakizaka Street glows with festive lights, creating a magical atmosphere - a must-see illumination spot.
Tokyo Midtown
The centerpiece of Tokyo Midtown is the Midtown Tower, home to The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo. The complex also includes The Galleria, the main shopping area with a charming garden terrace. Don’t miss the colorful light shows, especially Midtown Christmas, featuring the Starlight Garden illumination in winter.
Fine Dining
The Roppongi branch of Sukiyabashi Jiro, made famous by the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi, exemplifies world-class Japanese cuisine - though reservations are nearly impossible to secure. Roppongi also boasts other outstanding restaurants serving sushi, kaiseki, and shabu-shabu, as well as high-end Western establishments such as The Moon on the 52nd floor of Mori Tower and Jean-Georges Tokyo, led by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
A hub for the arts
Roppongi is known for its top-tier art museums. The so-called Roppongi Art Triangle unites three major institutions: the Mori Art Museum, the Suntory Museum of Art, and the National Art Center, Tokyo. Located just minutes apart, they form a paradise for art lovers. Visiting all three offers an inspiring journey through traditional and contemporary art, showcasing Japan’s modern creative spirit.
The National Art Center, Tokyo
Japan’s only national art museum without a permanent collection, it regularly hosts special exhibitions and artist association showcases. Designed by the renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa, the building features one of the most spacious exhibition halls in Japan.
Roppongi Art Night
If you visit during the right season, don’t miss Roppongi Art Night - a spectacular one-night festival celebrating creativity and making art accessible and exciting for everyone.
Shopping - from ultra-luxury to bargains
Roppongi offers an incredible mix of high-end and casual shopping experiences. Start at Roppongi Hills for luxury brands, then head to Don Quijote Roppongi, a discount megastore selling everything from daily goods to quirky souvenirs. Dive into the district’s dynamic shopping atmosphere and enjoy the unique urban energy.
Roppongi’s vibrant nightlife
When the sun sets, Roppongi transforms into one of Tokyo’s liveliest party areas. The district’s nightlife is legendary - perfect for anyone looking for excitement and fun.
