Tokyo Disneyland, also known as TDL, is a world-famous theme park covering 47 hectares in Chiba Prefecture, just outside Tokyo. The main entrance is located near Maihama and Tokyo Disneyland stations. Opened on April 15, 1983, it was the very first Disney park built outside the United States.
Together with its sister park, Tokyo DisneySea, it offers a unique experience that blends Disney magic with Japanese culture, attracting millions of visitors every year. These are also the only Disney parks in the world not owned or operated by The Walt Disney Company. With its unforgettable attractions, shows, and magical atmosphere, Tokyo Disneyland is a must-visit destination for families and Disney fans of all ages.
Themed Lands
The park features seven themed areas:
- World Bazaar
- Adventureland
- Westernland
- Fantasyland
- Tomorrowland
- Critter Country
- Toontown
Many areas are modeled after the original Disneyland in California, bringing beloved Disney stories and characters to life. Highlights include Peter Pan’s Flight, Snow White’s Adventures, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
In 2022, Tokyo Disneyland welcomed 12 million visitors, ranking as the 4th most visited theme park in the world and the 2nd in Asia. Its popularity shows the timeless appeal of Disney, creating magical memories for guests from all over the world.
Highlights of Each Land
World Bazaar
The park’s main gateway and shopping hub, designed to resemble early 20th-century America. Its two intersecting streets, Main Street and Center Street, lead toward Cinderella Castle, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. The entire area is covered by a glass canopy, so guests can shop and stroll comfortably in any weather.
Adventureland
Divided into two sections: a New Orleans-inspired district and a jungle-themed area. The design blends elements of New Orleans Square and classic Disney adventure rides.
Westernland
Step into the American Wild West! Highlights include Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Mark Twain Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and animatronic wildlife along the Rivers of America.
Critter Country
A small but beloved area, home to Splash Mountain, a thrilling log ride inspired by Disney’s 1946 film Song of the South.
Fantasyland
The heart of the park, with Cinderella Castle at its center. Guests can enjoy storybook rides based on Snow White, Peter Pan, and Pinocchio. In September 2020, the brand-new Beauty and the Beast area opened, featuring Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast, Maurice’s Cottage, Gaston’s Fountain, and Belle’s Village with themed shops and restaurants.
Toontown
Mickey’s colorful cartoon town, inspired by Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Attractions include Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin and Minnie’s Style Studio, where visitors can take photos with Minnie in seasonal outfits.
Tomorrowland
Showcasing futuristic fantasy rather than realistic science, Tomorrowland features classics like Space Mountain, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, and Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters. In 2020, the park introduced The Happy Ride with Baymax (inspired by Big Hero 6) and The Big Pop, a popcorn shop with a cosmic theme.
